¿Qué es y para qué sirve la crítica arquitectónica? Reconociendo la relación intrínseca entre práctica, crítica y teoría del proyecto debería llamarnos la atención que, hasta el momento, no se haya desarrollado ninguna investigación acerca de la reflexión crítica que se ha producido durante el período de ‘esplendor’ de la arquitectura chilena contemporánea. Una posible justificación para esta omisión sería una supuesta ‘ausencia’ de crítica en la disciplina, pero nada más alejado de la realidad. Con el objetivo de estudiar el desarrollo de la crítica arquitectónica en Chile en el periodo comprendido entre 1989 -‘Retorno a la democracia’- y 2019 -‘Crisis social’-, esta publicación busca dar el primer paso al convertirse en un armazón metodológico en la cual el lector pueda identificar los textos, autores, medios y contenidos en los cuales se evidencian las principales particularidades del ejercicio crítico y así reflexionar sobre el papel de este dentro de la producción arquitectónica chilena en los últimos treinta años.

What is architectural criticism and what is it for? Recognizing the intrinsic relationship between practice, criticism and theory of the project, it should draw our attention that, to date, no research has been developed about the critical reflection that has occurred during the period of ‘splendor’ of contemporary Chilean architecture. A possible justification for this omission would be a supposed ‘absence’ of criticism in the discipline, but nothing could be further from the truth. With the aim of studying the development of architectural criticism in Chile in the period between 1989 -‘Return to democracy’- and 2019 -‘Social crisis’-, this publication seeks to take the first step by becoming a methodological framework in which the reader can identify the texts, authors, media and contents in which the main particularities of the critical exercise are evident and thus reflect on its role within Chilean architectural production in the last thirty years.
